The weekend of 28th, 29th and 30th October saw the Young Greens, the youth wing of the Green Party of England and Wales, hosting their annual convention at The Old Libarary. The event is a chance for young members from across the country to meet and get engaged with the organisation.
Highlights of the weekend include a talk by Adrian Ramsay, the Deputy Leader of the Green Party and a discussion panel organised by Compass Youth on political parties working together.
Other speakers include Kieran Miles on his involvement in setting up local anti-cuts group and Shan Oakes, speaking on getting the Young Greens more involved with the wider party.
Training sessions and discussions also took place on a variety of issues including running student societies, organising campaigns and getting more involved with the media.
For more experienced or ambitious members, there were also sessions on Young Green policy and information on running in local elections, with Councillor Ash Haynes from Norwich speaking on her experiences.
It was a particularly important convention as this year the Young Greens will also be voting on constitutional and structural reforms of the internal workings of the organisation, ending a process ongoing for some time. Changes proposed include the incorporation of working groups to better involve members with weekly campaigns and decisions.
