Spencer Street Property Numbering
Spencer Street was constructed after 1836, Spencer Street Church was the first building to be erected in what was then nothing more than a dirt track, After the completion and opening of the Church in July 1836 properties were built stretching from this church towards the Parish Church in Victoria Terrace, These were on the North side of the new street which was then named Spencer Street,
In 1841 there were only 7 families listed on the north side of this rough track. The 1841 census listed 7 families in properties but gave no numbers to their properties
In the 1851 Census the property no’s and names of families were listed. As with all following census’s
As the road developed and properties were built on the South side of the road the house numbers in the road changed and so the previous census house numbers do not relate to today’s house numbers
